The Hong Kong Baptist University School of Communication has dedicated to nurturing communication professionals for the society since its predecessor – the Communication Department – was founded in 1968. The school, combining its early years as a department, has entered into its 50th anniversary in 2018.
In celebration of the jubilee and acknowledgment of alumni’s marked achievements in the society and contributions to the news industry, we have built a digital archive – the HKBU Journalism Student Publication Archive (BUJSPA) to display the journalistic works of generations of students to the public.
Jointly developed by the Journalism Department and the University Library, BUJSPA houses news articles in The Young Reporter and San Po Yan from their first editions published in 1968 and 1969, respectively. As one of the local digitized news archives open to the public online for free, BUJSPA’s search interface provides users with a better experience in browsing and keyword searching.

The HKBU Journalism Student Publication Archive is a collaboration of the Department of Journalism and the University Library. The Archive acknowledges the generous financial support provided by the Department of Journalism and also thanks the libraries of Hong Kong University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Both libraries kindly loaned their copies of issues that were not available in HKBU collection. While the Archive seeks to present digital images of all issues of The Young Reporter and San Po Yan published from the 1960s to 2017, there remain some gaps. We therefore appeal to our alumni for contributions of the missing copies.
